Happy New Year in advance! Today I'm taking it easy but as you know, the mind of a blogger is always thinking of something. I have collated the list of things I've spotted, love and predict to be a "right proper thing" in 2015, enjoy!
1. This tote bag from Dwellingbird. Just one of the innovative designs expected in the new year. Watch this space for brand new fabric designs and a "challenge tote" campaign. I'm in charge of the product test and there's a few ideas....
2. Wearable tech - you can read more in my editorial from a leading global researcher about how we will all be wearing technology in 2015. Combined with environmental sustainability, fashion will never be the same again. I'm in awe of this watch from VirginMedia that records your TV show when you fall asleep, woah!
3. January sales - ok so this one is big every year so still counts right? I love shopping but I love a bargain more so imagine me when seeing the bunch of dresses on clearance at John Lewis, " let me at 'em"!
Just updated my website, I guess a creative entrepreneurs work is never complete! I've added the editorial section for not only news and reviews but the inclusion of other writers work. I've been writing for other people for so long and asking for a reference that it is time I return the favour and pay it forward. All writers welcome!
While I write this, I am sitting in my dressing gown while watching Justin's house on Cbeebies with the little one and a kitten licking herself next to me. TMI? Probably. It's actually the first proper day off for a while where I haven't also scheduled an appointment and I'm enjoying it. Trying not to think of the back to work routine yet lest I ruin my relaxed feeling. Every year around this time I am filled with a renewed sense of possibilities. As a twenty-something, it was the time I applied to many jobs hoping for a fresh start. I am not necessarily doing that now in my thirties, I realised the grass is rarely greener but financial freedom would be great or at least something with a good salary and that allows me to do the school run too? Impossible? We'll see. Also taken the opportunity to fill my livingroom with the (not so) subtle scents of summer fruits and berries. Really embracing the two-candle feng shui rule. Apart from encouraging the flow of chi and welcoming love it also masks the evidence of the smelly, cheeky cat. I think it has actually soothed the cat to sleep.
I've been thinking about New Years resolutions and have thought about the wishes we make and what it means to truly "elevate" oneself. Maybe I will change my mind or someone will come and tell me something that will make me think differently but I do think that people need to get out of their dream world.
Too many people live in a dream. Aspiration is great but when you live in the aspiration it's hard to see the reality of your situation and how to make the dream a new reality.
I am of the "appreciate now" school of thought. Only when you see the reality of the situation can you devise ways of making it better.
I love to daydream; my car, my house, my designer wardrobe but what constitutes riches is a relative concept. Some will deem what I currently have as riches. I am truly thankful for everything I have now and work hard to make progress. I will never "elevate" at the expense of missing that which I've been blessed with today. The harder days where I skipped meals because of lack of money both taught me lessons and built resilience in me that I will need as an entrepreneur.
Today people live in a dream world. They want what they cannot afford and get into debt. The want to be slim and risk their lives in unlicensed surgery instead of looking to change eating habits. They want to be rich but cannot work and turn to crime instead. Some are sick but don't wait to be fully recovered. Some want love but instead of getting fully ready for that reality or working on something real with a mutual partner they rush to create a dream with a non mutual person or when they're not ready which inevitably leads to tears. We are in a generation where people will pay double to be a VIP when a real VIP does not pay. A VIP is a friend, a celebrity, family, someone who has been invited. I will happily pay the going price for something but I question a VIP offer. I would seek to become the VIP not pay for a dream.
I am of the school of thought that we must learn every lesson that will move us forward. I am not the same as I was yesterday and hope to be better tomorrow. I am truly thankful for everyday, everything and all I have and am and welcome the realisation of the dreams that come to fruition
These few days between Christmas and New Year's Day are normally given to thinking of ways to lose that party-time weight. Even those that may not need to lose weight will probably be influenced by the many fitness and health articles that will soon take over our January magazines. Tips to help you lose weight, gain muscle, start the year right etc, etc. I have personally not looked back since the year I started drinking hot lemon water in the morning. It really makes a difference to daily food choices when you start the day well. At the moment I have not decided what my New Year's resolutions are but it is not likely to be diet related. I already caught the outdoor running and indoor (HIIT) spinning bug in 2014 but today was stopped next to my kitchen table and notice how already, the empty chocolate box is filled with fruit! Impressed with that!
So that was Christmas 2014. How was it for you? Sitting down, it is Boxing Day, looking at my fluffy slippers, fluffy dressing gown and fibre optic tree, I'm tired and satisfied. Less expectation than previous years, maybe a sign of maturity but by just enjoying the company of those that want to be with me I felt a lot more relaxed. There seemed to be only one winner though with all the many "Frozen" merchandise. Bed sheets, dress up toys, posters, games, dolls; Disney's "Frozen" really made an impact this Christmas.
It seems to be pretty much standard now that it is Christmas that Bridget Jones diary the movie will be on the television. Although I do think that the noughties and tweenies thirty something women have evolved somewhat from sitting at home waiting for "mr right" I have seen this film countless times and love it. So I compiled (while watching it) my reasons to love Bridget Jones diary.
1. The original blogger - before everyone was on twitter, blog spot and bloglovin, we simply had diaries. Bridget Jones is one of us. As a teenager I kept a diary and it evolved to the web, I totally relate!
2. It's ok to be a happy single woman - whining about random men aside, Bridget jones has a lot of fun. She has key bezzie mates and super fun nights out. Even her nights in are occupied with good wine and a favourite movie.
3. Hot leading men - basically if you needed only one reason to watch this film, it will be because of Colin Firth and Hugh Grant, hubba hubba.
4. This cocktail - yep, I found this cocktail named after Bridget Jones! Mmmmm, cocktails!

I guess I just have to accept how it is. At any given moment I'm gonna have a "fashionspiration." It might be leather look leggings (which I wore today, it felt great) or feng shui(ing) my house or even painting my nails a festive green and red (random). It is how it is. I kind of do need a new "best friend"bra and now I've convinced myself that I do. My "best friend" is not literally a person that cups my lady lumps cos that would be weird, I merely recognise that I have a set I alternate between. There may be the key ones to do with a dress for a special occasion but my everyday faves are set and specific and so comfy that I go a long way to find another. Anyway, I found this one from Etsy Lingerie slightly minxy but just enough cute for my liking.
On Sunday night I had a sudden urge to wear leather look leggings and woolly boots. Not normally my first choice but thank God for Primani for being well ahead with the fashion trendsetting. I'm sure I'll find some "proper" leather trousers / jeans, maybe in the January sales but in the meantime, fashion craving has been eased. I already have my woolly winter jumper and dreamed of combining it with the leather look leggings. The contrast of soft winter warming wool against the shiny faux leather material is so fashion fab, I just couldn't resist. Appeases the inner rock chick in me while at the same time keeping it soft and romantic. Definitely a keeper.
