Accessories for men highlight report
The inaugural event of its name, London Fashion Week Men’s (LFWM) is the tenth edition of the London menswear showcase. Since its inception as a one day display of menswear at the end of London Fashion Week, LFWM has grown to be recognised as one of the most exciting platforms for menswear in the world. Previously known as London Collections Men, the event was renamed London Fashion Week Men’s to recognise its equal importance to womenswear. LFWM showcases creative and design talent from around the world through a packed schedule of shows, presentations, installations and events that took place from Friday 6th to Monday 9th January 2017.
The event this year was bigger than ever and reflected the overall trend in menswear industry. Men’s clothing market, according to Mintel grew by 4.1% in 2015 to reach £14.1billion (up from £13.5billion in 2014) and is predicted to grow by 22% before 2020. $440bn (£298bn) worth of sales in menswear globally in 2014 and $40bn (£27bn) further sales predicted in the menswear apparel market reaching $480bn (£325bn) by 2019 (Euromonitor, 2015).
So… who’s who in British menswear in 2017? This season Vivienne Westwood returned to LFWM as well as J.W.Anderson, British Emerging Talent nominee Charles Jeffrey, Alex Mullins, Craig Green, Cottweiler, Liam Hodges and Wales Bonner to name just a few. In addition, NEWGEN graduate Bobby Abley presented on the catwalk schedule. In the Designer Showrooms, more than 60 designers showcased their latest collections in the Accessories Showrooms, among them are these beauties:
1. Briston Watches: Where vintage elegance meets unique and modern, the BRISTON watch has since 2013, brought us a “Sport Chic” style with a strong classical appeal. The CLUBMASTER collection takes us back in time and meets the demand for Vintage watches by twisting it with a modern style - The CLUBMASTER VINTAGE has an understated elegance and is crafted to be a timeless classic in style and function. A true symbol of excellence and a statement of the brand’s dedication to the watchmaking tradition.
2. The first collection by Gladstone London includes sleek totes using luxury materials including pewter plated brass zips through to simple, elegant travel bags. Gladstone London is a premium English accessory brand, handcrafted using the finest Italian leather. Launched in 2015 by John O’Sullivan Founder and CEO, who has over 30 years’ experience in luxury fashion, operating for brands such as Harrods, MCM and Tanner Krolle where he was Chief Operating Director.
3. Fariba Soltani is an emerging London-based fashion brand that specialises in luxury scarves and pocket squares. Founded in 2013, Fariba Soltani has managed to channel her affinity for layering, repetition, colours and shapes into her collections, putting a modern twist on the functional scarf.
4. Founded in 2009, Northskull is a men’s jewellery and accessories brand based in London with a focus on creating contemporary pieces that add a stylish element to the attire of the modern man. Designing technically innovative pieces the collection adds an extra dimension to men’s jewellery and accessories. Utilising luxurious materials from semi-precious stones to Swarovski crystals to python leather, Northskull is contemporary and exceptional with a luxe aesthetic. By blending luxury materials with cutting-edge metallic detailing, and infused with the characteristically unique approach to jewellery and accessories design, Northskull is leading the way in creating distinctive pieces for the discerning gentleman.
